Sep100 firefighters tackle blaze at Warehouse21st Sep 2011Wiltshire fire crews were among 100 firefighters who tackled a big blaze at a cheese-filled warehouse in Somerset last night.
At its peak 10 fire crews were working to put out flames at the warehouse in Wincanton, owned by Adams Foods, who make the Pilgrim’s Choice brand of cheddar cheese.
Among them were crews from Warminster, Tisbury and Mere.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Paul Slaven described the blaze, which started at around 10.15pm, as one of the biggest fires in the county for some time.
Warminster Station Manager Chris Trimby said: “It was certainly a big blaze, simply due to the sheer size of the building.
