Fighting Fires - Or Rather Not
Fire-fighting should be a very quick action - in most cases it's safer to get out. After all, a caravan and possessions can be replaced, loved ones can't. So if you think there is an opportunity to take action to douse or restrict the growth of a fire then do it quickly and if it doesn't work within seconds, get out, just get out fast.
All caravans should have a fire extinguisher near the door and a fire blanket in the cooking area. If the fire extinguisher is a water-based one, don't use it on a cooker fire, throw the blanket over it and get out.
Make sure all your family know how to get out of the caravan. This might sound a bit stupid as there's usually only one door but many big windows at the ends of larger caravans will open fully.
For example, if you have the caravan set out in a dining configuration with a table in the middle of a horseshow shaped seating area, it might be easier and faster for children to go through the windows that all shuffle around the table to reach the door. Assess your caravan's choices and educate children about how to use them.
