South Yorkshire fire service redundancy scheme wins award
    21st Nov 2011

A scheme run by South Yorkshire Fire Service that provides support to workers who face redundancy has won an award.

The initiative trains staff to provide advice to others who are face losing their job under the service's reorganisation.

The service is making 40 of its 227 support staff redundant, in order to save £10m over the next four years.

It also plans to cut 140 firefighters.

The scheme has trained 12 members of staff to provide support and advice to their colleagues.

It was awarded first place in the Outstanding Contribution to Workforce Development category at the Yorkshire and Humber Making a Difference awards.
